The Replacements
gaan nu ook eindelijk hun eerste vier platen opnieuw uitbrengen. Vorig jaar zou dat al gebeuren, maar nu lijkt het er eindelijk van te komen. Niet dat ik nu een gat in de lucht spring, want blijkbaar hebben ze voor Twin/Tone geen extra materiaal opgenomen. Het blijft dus bij digitally remastered. Wel mooi dat de beste vier platen van misschien wel de beste Amerikaanse band uit de jaren tachtig nu weer wat aandacht krijgen.

Rock And Roll Confidential
This September, record buyers will be treated to We’re A Happy Family, a superstar tribute to The Ramones. The tribute, which is being co-produced by Ramones guitarist Johnny Ramone and horror-rocker Rob Zombie will feature Ramones classics recorded by such acts as Garbage, KISS, U2 and Metallica.
“Originally, we were going to call the album “Rob Zombie Presents: The Most Ironic Album Ever!” but we didn’t think most fans would get it, so we stuck with the name we’ve got now.” Zombie elaborated “Sure, The Ramones were a seminal act who influenced countless millions of musicians and were not a huge selling band and not terribly wealthy but we thought an album of Ramones songs recorded by multimillionaires could really make us some more money. Especially now that Dee-Dee’s dead, too.”
“KISS were the last band to sign on to the project.” said Zombie “Well, actually, it’s Tommy Thayer as Ace, Eric Singer as Peter, Spiro Papadatos as Gene and the real Paul Stanley, so I guess it’s technically KISS.”
The bands participating plan to celebrate the album’s release by sucking the marrow out of the decayed bones of Joey Ramone.

Prompt krijg je een brief met teksten als: "Wij zullen direct actie ondernemen als blijkt dat u uw lastercampagne voortzet."
Als ik zie (ik kom voor mijn werk in een heleboel boekhandels) in hoeveel exemplaren dit boek de markt in gegaan is en ik combineer dat met dit soort acties, dan heb ik wel een idee van de verkoopresultaten.

Lowlands schrapt optreden DJ Chris Korda
Ze zou promotie maken voor en zelfs voorganger zijn in de Church of Euthanasia.
"Volgens velen geeft dit afzeggen geen blijk van de rebelsheid waarop de bezoekers eigenlijk nog een beetje hadden gehoopt bij de organisatie. Van Eerdenburg is het hier niet mee eens: "Ik ben zelf helemaal niet tegen controverse, ik vind het een heel mooi instrument om een boodschap duidelijk te maken. Maar ik vind dat deze meneer wat mij betreft geen aandacht hoeft te hebben. En alle aandacht die er nu in de media is, die stoort me ook."
Twee vragen:
A. De rebelsheid is op Lowlands toch al een paar jaar ingeruild voor geld en grote namen?
B. Is die Van Eerdenburg nu dom of hypocriet? Alsof cancellen niet juist voor publiciteit zorgt.
Overigens ziet de site van de Church of Euthanasia er vrij onschuldig uit. Er zijn meer mensen die zeggen dat met de huidige bevolkingsaanwas de aardbol over een tijdje niet meer iedereen kan voeden. This version was already available for nada in the pre-historic days of this website (late 2000). I recorded 'White Boy Blues (Opal Moon)' sometime in '96, still in hometown Tremelo with the one crappy microphone I owned then (I now own two crappy microphones). It appeared on the very first Sukilove demo in '98 (the three other songs on that demo were : Play & Sing, Hug a smart girl and The Left Side). Since I never bothered to re-record the song due to demo-magic and other musical myths, this is the version that also appears on the 'Talking...' album. It's not complete but then again, what is.

bracht zojuist zijn tweede solo-plaat uit. The A-Frame Sessions Vol. 2 heet de plaat en inderdaad, Willie B. is niet de geniale gek en Beach Boy, maar de drummer van Johnny Dowd. Hier zijn fragmenten in RealAudio te beluisteren van The A-Frame Sessions Vol. 1 en hier, op de site van Brother Meat, fragmenten in MP3 en RealAudio van zijn tweede CD The A-Frame Sessions Vol. 2. Volgens eigen zeggen heeft hij de laatste tijd vooral naar exotica geluisterd en blijkt dat duidelijk op Vol. 2. Gezien de titels klopt dat wel aardig.

Binnen enkele seconden staat de kleine winkel aan de Westerstraat afgeladen vol. Vijf minuten geleden gleden mijn vingers in alle rust langs de hoezen. Nu prikken vier jongens bij de drie draaitafels achterin naalden in groeven. Drie toeristen versperren het pad tussen de Just Arrived en Indie American. Twee kale maatjes hurken tussen de breakbeats. DJ S. roept of ik die Queen-tribute op Three.One.G met Melt Banana al heb gezien. Ik probeer een cd te keuren door hem over de winkelinstallatie af te draaien, zappend van track naar track. Een gezelschap hardrockers uit de provincie stapt de zaak binnen, luidkeels naar elkaar roepend dat ze hier toch even moeten stoppen in hun strooptocht door de hoofdstad.

Vijftigers en zestigers zweren vaak bij hoog en bij laag dat evergreens van The Beatles, Elvis Presley of Fats Domino pas op z'n best klinken, als ze draaien vanaf een zwarte schijf. Toch is het volgens het chemieconcern Bayer, dat de kleurstof samenstelde, niet meer dan 'een leuke bijkomstigheid' dat elke cd weer de uitstraling kan krijgen van het vinyl uit vroeger dagen.
