  Laura Cantrell - Humming By The Flowered Vine

Laura Cantrell is de eerste bij wie ik een opdracht voor John Peel aantrof: 'This record is dedicated to the memory of John Peel'. Er waren al wel drie of vier boeken van of over John Peel aangekondigd, maar - eigenlijk tot mijn verbazing - is Humming By The Flowered Fine de eerste CD waar ik een dergelijke tekst vond.



Singer/songwriter/radiomaker (WFMU’s Radio Thrift Shop) Laura Cantrell noemt in een in memoriam op haar website John Peel de grootste radiomaker aller tijden en dat zal niet alleen zijn omdat zij ook een radioprogramma presenteert. Ooit riep hij over haar: 'My favourite record of the last ten years and possibly my life is an LP by a New York woman born in Nashville called Laura Cantrell. It’s country, and I don’t know why I like it, but it has the same sort of effect on me as Roy Orbison had in the ‘60s.'
