Fargo Rock City

"You know, I've never had long hair" geeft auteur Chuck Klosterman toe. En toch heeft hij met Fargo Rock City: A heavy metal odyssey in rural Nörth Daköta, wellicht de definitieve geschiedenis van de hair bands uit de jaren tachtig geschreven. Afwisselend heeft hij het over zijn eigen jeugd in Kutkrabberveen, N-H (Wyndmere, North Dakota), en de opkomst en ondergang van de meest foute muziekstroming voorafgaand aan gabber. Ratt, Poison, Motley Crue et al: voor een puber met J.P. Balkenende-looks en brains - maar met stoere metal-t-shirts - waren zij een manier om te ontsnappen.



Verwacht geen Beavis en Butthead-toestanden, maar eerder briljante zijweggetjes als deze:
